Distinguished Grotonians

自1977年以来, 易胜博app安卓下载 has presented the Distinguished Grotonian Award, which recognizes graduates whose lives of highly distinguished service reflect the essential values of the School.

The Distinguished Grotonians for 2022 are Congressman Jim Cooper, from the Form of 1972, and shop teacher and archivist Doug Brown, from the Form of 1957.

Jim Cooper upholds Groton’s deep tradition of graduates who devote their careers to serving our country. He has represented the district around Nashville, Tennessee in the United States Congress for a total of thirty-two years. Jim has modeled dignity as decorum disintegrated around him, and he has strived to build bridges as divisions gripped Congress and the nation. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer called Jim “one of the most serious, 稳定的, and intelligent policymakers and legislators our country has produced.”

The Distinguished Grotonian Award recognizes alumni who have lived lives of highly distinguished service. Few have served the Groton community with more distinction and impact than Doug Brown, who graduated in the Form of 1957. Doug taught shop for more than five decades, and he tended the school’s historic archives with exquisite care—motivated by his love of Groton and his sincere interest in this school’s history. Ask him about an event that happened decades ago, and you’ll hear a story—an accurate story—in great detail. Show Doug a relic or an old photograph, and he will know where it came from and why it’s important.

崔服务奖

The 崔服务奖 is given annually to outstanding younger alumni who, through their exceptional contribution to the School or the world, have truly lived up to the School's motto. 的座右铭, Cui Servire Est Regnare, is alternately translated as "To Serve Is to Rule" or "For Whom Service Is Perfect Freedom.” In the motto's original context, service refers to a person's service to God. But the motto has been accepted more broadly to connote service to the community and the world, and it inspires many Grotonians to make community service integral to their lives.

This year’s Cui Servire Est Regnare Award goes to 风暴 Taliaferrow, a member of the Form of 1992.

For immi奖助金 to the United States, entrepreneurship is often a lifeline and a path to success. 许多, 然而, would have found the gates to opportunity closed if not for 风暴’s support, 注意, 没完没了的工作. Through the National Association for Latino Community Asset Builders, 风暴 helps provide loans, 奖助金, 培训, and technical assistance to Latino and immigrant entrepreneurs in low- to moderate-income communities across the country.
